Hours: 40 hours per week, standard Monday- Friday 8:00am- 5:00pm, flexibility is required on evenings and weekends

FLSA status: Exempt

Earliest Start Date: As soon as possible.

Summary: Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in Preventative Maintenance and repairs of University vehicles.

Purpose of Position

Essential Functions

Under general supervision, manage the automotive shop. Supervise all vehicle repairs, maintenance, and operations to include preventive maintenance, inventory and parts control, and procurement of supplies. Ensure the vehicle fleet is available for safe use by UTEP personnel. Train subordinate personnel ensuring adherence to safety policies and procedures.

Plan, assign, and oversee all repair and maintenance activities of the automotive shop, ensuring they meet safety and quality standards. Conduct regular inspections and audits of completed work.

Lead, train, develop and conduct performance evaluations for a team of automotive mechanics.

Ensure the shop is clean, organized, and fully equipped. Monitor and maintain operational efficiency of diagnostic tools, lifts, and other essential equipment.

Maintain accurate records of repairs, preventive maintenance schedules, and shop expenditures.

Develop detailed reports for management on shop performance metrics and fleet condition.

Manage vehicle inspection, registration, and insurance renewals, ensuring compliance with state and institutional policies.

Support the Fleet Manager with special projects, including procurement of vehicles, golf carts, all-terrain vehicles, trailers, and other special use vehicles.

Develop and maintain a detailed inventory of parts, tools, and consumables needed for shop operations.

Provide accurate cost estimates for mechanical, collision, and other vehicle repairs, as well as modifications requested by internal customers.

Submit purchase requisitions to procure necessary parts, materials, tools, and services for shop operations and maintenance of the fleet.

Coordinates with Environmental Health and Safety for the disposal of used lubricants, filters, and antifreeze.

Responsible for the fuels and propane dispensers and for providing appropriate reports and information to management.

Responsible for ensuring the accurate entry of timesheets, attendance records, and leave requests for direct reports. Verifies timesheets against corresponding work orders for accuracy and compliance.

Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and guidelines

Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.

Comply with all State and University policies.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Required Qualifications:

Education: Associate degree or equivalent from two-year College or technical school within area of assigned responsibility

and

Experience: Five years of experience, related to the statement of duties and responsibilities; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Occasional travel may be required.

Preferred Qualifications: Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification
