Type of Assignment: Full-Time Faculty
Position Available: MiraCosta Colleges Automotive Technology Department invites applications for one equity-minded, full-time (10 months per year), tenure-track faculty position beginning in August 2025.Were seeking a candidate with a strong blend of technical expertise, teaching experience, excellent interpersonal skills, and a passion for teaching and developing future professionals in the automotive field. The ideal candidate should have in-depth knowledge of automotive systems, diagnostics, repair techniques, and current industry trends. The candidate will be assigned day and/or evening classes on the Oceanside campus.This role combines technical expertise, instructional skill, and a strong commitment to student success in the rapidly evolving field of Automotive Technology. The instructor will be responsible for teaching both theoretical and hands-on courses, ensuring that curriculum and outcomes align with current and emerging industry standards, to prepare students for a state-of-the-art workforce.Duties Include: Developing and updating course materials, lesson plans, and instructional methods to reflect industry advancements while integrating technology and equipment into the curriculum to enhance learning. Monitoring and assessing student learning outcomes and performance through exams, assignments, and lab tasks, and collaborating with faculty, administrators, and industry partners to continuously improve the program. Maintaining compliance with ASE accreditation and certification standards, advising students on academic progress and career opportunities, and fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment with diverse student populations. Initiating and developing relationships with local automotive businesses, industry partners, and manufacturers, as well as facilitating internships, apprenticeships, and job placement opportunities for students. Keeping accurate student records, preparing required reports, and participating in departmental meetings and institutional activities. Representing the program at community events, career fairs, and professional organizations. Staying current with industry trends, teaching practices, and technology through professional development opportunities. Pursuing ongoing education to maintain relevant industry certifications and qualifications.RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT:MiraCosta College Board Policy 7800: Employee Residency requires all full-time faculty to maintain and permanently reside in a principal place of residence in the state of California that is within two hundred (200) road miles from the employees regularly assigned district worksite. The purpose of the policy is to promote efficiency and continuity throughout all campus administrative functions, provide students with high-quality assistance and accessibility to all academic and campus services, ensure that students receive an engaging education, and respond to emerging student needs.The District may consider an individual request to temporarily reside outside of the State of California or outside the 200-mile limit on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed twelve consecutive months.
Compensation: Initial salary placement is based on education and experience and ranges from $85,435 (class I, step 1) to $143,026 (class VI-doctorate, step 10) on the 2024-2025 Annual Salary Schedule. Minimum Qualifications:
To be eligible for this position, you must meet and provide evidence of the following minimum qualifications:
1. Any Bachelor's degree AND two (2) years of professional experience*; OR
2. Any Associate's degree AND six (6) years of professional experience*; OR
(*NOTE: Work experience in the industry that would be appropriate in Automotive Technology is described as automotive technical trade experience in automotive maintenance, engine performance, engine rebuilding and repair, emission control systems, suspension, steering and wheel alignment, brake systems, and drivetrain; including automatic transmissions, manual transmissions, and differentials, automotive electrical, HVAC, and/or small engine service/repair. Evidence of such experience would be the possession of current ASE certification(s) in one or more of the stated area(s) above.)
3. The equivalent; AND
4. Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff.
In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, the applicant must possess the following:
1. Valid California Driver's License
2. ASE Technician Certifications, (preferably Master), including G1. [A list of certifications must be submitted with the application.]
